19/9 – Radio fairytales and message from Hokkaido

So, today was yet another day, and once again not particularly interesting or exciting. Finished cleaning the peeman house before noon. Afternoon was spent preparing flower beds. After work I went on a bike ride to town, played at the playground and went back. Tonight’s dinner was the local specialty: Dango jiru. I did a little research on it in Denmark, but I thought it was some kind of dessert soup, as “dango” is (also) a traditional sweet in japan; however, this was a “regular” soup with handmade (by obaa-chan) noodle-ish dough strips. It was good! May ask for that on my last night here, unless I think of something else.

When we work, we often listen to the radio, and even though I only get a little of what’s being said, it’s sometimes pretty interesting… and sometimes VERY boring. They talk about strange topics sometimes. I remember a looong conversation about “goya mushipan”. (Goya is a very bitter vegetable and mushipan is a kind of fluffy bread).
Sometimes though, they have radio dramas! The last time I heard one was while working with the sweet peas, where they told “Ali Baba and the 40 robbers” (or whatever it’s called in English). This time, I heard “Aladdin and the Magic Lamp”, in Japanese: “Aladdin to mahou lampu”, I think. I couldn’t hear it clearly though.
I also heard another “mukashibanashi” (fairytale), but I don’t know the name. It was something about three brothers; that’s about what I heard, lol.

It won’t be long until I move on… hope it’ll be exciting! I’m actally already looking forward to my next homestay in Hokkaido in 4 weeks’ time. They too seem extremely nice! I’ll find out soon enough though ^^
